After Heath Ledger's father, Kim, announced last week that Heath's daughter Matilda would inherit his entire $20 million estate, the news took an ugly turn when his insurance company announced that it will not pay out on his policy! ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, which is owned by ING, claims the actor's death was suicide and intends to investigate despite the fact that the New York City Medical Examiner ruled his death an accident. Two-year-old Matilda's trustee is suing ReliaStar for acting in bad faith by not promptly paying out on the $10 million policy and by wrongfully prying into the life of Heath Ledger after his death. They seek to prove that it was suicide because there is a provision stating, "If the Insured commits suicide ... we will pay only the amount of premiums paid to us." ReliaStar's lawyers intend to take the depositions from Mary-Kate Olsen, the masseuse who was at Ledger's home when he died, Ledger's colleagues on his last film, his agents, doctors and psychologists. ReliaStar believes Ledger may have lied on two questions on his insurance application -- specifically, whether he was taking prescription drugs when he filled out the application and whether he ever used illegal drugs.
