Trevor Lawrence is now a dad; here’s five ways raising a kid is a lot like playing football

Baby Shae Lynn Lawrence was born Jan. 4th

Lost in all of the Jaguars news of the past few days, was the fact that Trevor and Marissa Lawrence welcomed a brand new baby girl into the world in the middle of the night on January 4th.

You’ll excuse me for making everything into a football analogy, but when you’re talking about the Golden Haired One, you’re kind of obligated to try.

With that in mind, here are 5 ways Trevor Lawrence will see similarities between what he does in the huddle, and what he does in the nursery:

  1. It takes a team: You’ve got your offensive line (family, friends, teachers) providing support, your coaches (parenting books, experts, maybe even your own parents) giving guidance, and of course, you and your co-parent as quarterbacks calling the plays.
  2. There are different positions to play: Sometimes you’re the running back, carrying the child through challenges. Sometimes you’re the wide receiver, staying open and ready to catch them when they fall. And sometimes you’re the linebacker, setting firm boundaries and tackling tough situations.
  3. It’s full of unexpected plays: Just when you think you’ve got things figured out, there’s a fumble (a tantrum in the grocery store), an interception (your teenager suddenly rebels), or a Hail Mary pass (your kid unexpectedly excels in something you never anticipated).
  4. There are lots of timeouts: You’ll need them to regroup, reassess the situation, and come up with a new game plan. And sometimes, you just need a break to catch your breath and regain your sanity.
  5. The goal is to get to the end zone: To raise a happy, healthy, well-adjusted adult who can thrive independently. Touchdown!

Of course, unlike football, there’s usually no clear winner or loser in parenting. The journey itself is the reward (even if it feels like a contact sport sometimes!).
