NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A mother and her two children are dead after their trailer was consumed by flames in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The 911 call obtained by Action News Jax reveals a neighbor was alerted to the fire after hearing “pop” sounds.

She jumped into action and called for help.
“I just woke up and saw it: The whole trailer’s on fire,” said the caller.
After about five minutes on the phone, the caller soon realized her neighbor and her two children likely hadn’t made it out on time.

“I believe they’re all in there unless they got out,” said the caller. “Their truck is still there.”
The dispatcher asked if she believed the occupants were still in the home.
“Yeah, but it’d be too late,” the caller responded.

The morning light confirmed those fears.
A 40-year-old woman and her two children, aged 7 and 11 years old, perished in the flames.
“Her kids (were) her life,” said Mitchell Tanner, who identified himself as the uncle of the mother killed in the fire.

Tanner said when he heard the news, he was overwhelmed with confusion, explaining the trailer was new and that multiple dogs were in the home.
“It’s a brand new trailer — not even three years old. How does it burn to the frame before the fire department or anything can get here? I don’t understand. I’m lost. I’m hurt. I’m wounded,” said Tanner.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Tanner told us he doesn’t suspect it was caused by a space heater since the trailer had central heat and air.
