Jacksonville FL — This weekend the Blue Cypress Golf Course will welcome golfers back to the banks of the St. Johns River, near Jacksonville University, after undergoing renovations. The city says all tees, greens, fairways, and the driving range were renovated, and an irrigation system was upgraded to keep the course looking as beautiful as possible. The course is a 9-hole, par 36 course measuring 3,229 yards from the longest tees.
We’re told the city-owned course was previously an 18-hole course for the Edenfield River Estates development, and since it’s in an environmentally sensitive area, plans were developed to reduce the course into a 9-hole course and use the rest of the area for a natural, resourced-based public outdoor recreation site.
City Council member Joyce Morgan says she’s a big fan of the improvements.
“The opening of Blue Cypress Golf Course for me personally is like welcoming an old friend back home. As the District 1 Council Member, this is a game-changer for our community. Not only will we have golf back in Old Arlington, we will also usher in “The First Tee” golf program which can be a major deterrent to crime as we continue to build opportunities for children and their families.” Morgan says.
The area near the course also has other amenities including a playground, community center, tennis courts, soccer fields, trails, picnic tables and you can fish from the park’s pier.
