Jacksonville FL — Tuesday the Duval County Public School District announced that Douglas Anderson School of the Arts will remain closed through October 29th due to an outbreak of coronavirus at the school. In a message that went out to parents, the school district says, as the department of health continues to work on contact tracing, its clear that the number of close contacts will exceed the school districts threshold requiring the school to stay open. We reported Monday when the school said they were going to start the week virtually due to multiple cases discovered and they were hoping to reopen by Thursday.

The district says all extracurricular activities, including group rehearsals, practices and other events will be suspended while students are learning virtually. They say testing scheduled for this week will be rescheduled.

Even though students will be learning virtually, the school district says they will continue to follow the normal bell schedule and students should be ready to go by 8:25 in the morning.

The school plans to reopen on October 30th.
