Jacksonville, FL — Councilman Garrett Dennis announced his resignation from the Jacksonville City Council on Monday.
The Democrat, representing District 9, plans to run for a seat in the state house, District 14.
In a news release, Dennis said, “There is a fight in Tallahassee that must be won on behalf of our families and workers here in Jacksonville.”

He said, “We need urgent action to protect voting rights, for equity funding in job creation and affordable housing, and to reduce healthcare costs for seniors. Those are the issues I’ve championed over my career in public life and I will fight for them every day in the state legislature.”

Dennis was elected to the city council in 2015 and reelected in 2019.
He said helping small businesses succeed will be a major focus of his work if he is elected to the state Legislature.
The general election is scheduled for Nov. 8, 2022.
The primary is scheduled for Aug. 23, 2022.
