ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The long-awaited Buc-ee’s location off Interstate 95 near World Golf Village in St. Augustine finally has an opening date.
The massive convenience store and gas station, the first Northeast Florida location, will open on Monday, Feb. 22.
Thrillist named the chain America’s best pit stop in April 2017.
The article says the chain features gourmet sweets, fresh-to-order sandwiches, Texas kolaches and some of the cleanest restrooms in America.
Plans for the St. Johns County location were first announced in October 2017.
Neighbors signed a petition that was against the chain coming to the area.
Construction was originally supposed to begin in 2018.

Then in May 2018, it was announced that the location would be a little smaller than originally planned.
In February 2019, the chain said construction would begin in June of that year.
Plans were submitted in August 2019 to the St. Johns River Water Management District show new turn lanes at the intersection and I-95 off ramps, resurfacing and signal installations to handle the extra traffic.
In December 2020, Buc-ee’s announced it was hiring for the St. Augustine location.
