PALMER, Alaska — It may not be autumn yet, but one Alaska farmer is getting into the fall spirit in a really, really big way.
According to the Anchorage Daily News and KTUU, Dale Marshall, of Anchorage, squashed the competition in the Alaska State Fair giant pumpkin contest Monday with a nearly 2,150-pound gourd.
“It’s official!” the fair wrote in an Instagram post. “Dale Marshall broke his own record and set a new state record with this 2,147-pound giant pumpkin! Pie, everyone?”
The pumpkin, dubbed Cookie Monster, dwarfed Marshall’s previous state record-holding specimen from 2019 by 96 pounds, the Daily News reported.
But Cookie Monster is petite compared to the current Guinness World Record holder – a 2,702-pounder grown last year by Stefano Cutrupi, of Radda in Chianti, Italy, according to the organization’s website.
