It’s Col. Sanders’ birthday! Take a look back at KFC’s baby name contest that earned one family $11K

Thursday marks KFC founder Colonel Harland David Sanders’ birthday.

Colonel Sanders remains the face of the fried chicken chain, even 41 years after his death at age 90 in 1980.

In honor of Sanders’ posthumous birthday, we’re taking a look back at KFC’s 2018 “Baby Harland Naming Contest.”

That year, the chain launched the contest for expecting parents who were willing to name their kid after the Colonel. KFC announced it would donate $11,000 worth of college tuition to the first baby born on Sanders’ birthday named Harland.

And on September 9, 2018, Harland Rose was born 8 lbs. 1 oz. Her parents were awarded the $11,000 prize money to go towards their baby’s tuition.

I’m as pleased as pumpkin punch to announce the winner of our Baby Harland Naming Contest and the Harland who will be ushering in an all-new generation of Harlands, little Harland Rose,” KFC wrote on Twitter.
