The Gremlin threw a haymaker during “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night. Instead of the show unmasking the celebrity, the star unmasked himself.
Spoiler alert: The Gremlin was actor-boxer Mickey Rourke, Variety reported.
Rourke was the second performer to leave during the show’s fourth season, and apparently, the glare was too much in the furry costume he wore.
“Damn it, it’s hot, I’m taking it off,” Rourke said, surprising the show’s panelist and host Nick Cannon as he yanked the head of the costume free.
“We’ve lost control, it’s the Gremlin show!” Cannon said. “This is a ‘Masked Singer’ first. "We didn’t get to vote, the other people didn’t get to come out.”
Rourke said he has been a fan of the show, Billboard reported. He said he decided to compete in the program because, “I was in the neighborhood.”
“I like the show, I watched four episodes and they asked if I’d be interested so I watched from the very beginning,” Rourke said.
On “The Masked Singer,” Rourke performed Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me,” Variety reported. He dedicated the song to his friend Willy DeVille, a musician who died in 2009.
In his clue package, Rourke told the panel, “Despite my checkered history, I can actually be quite charming. A true romantic. You may have heard I can be a bit combative. But I have a fluffy side too. I adore all animals, long spins on the beach, and bashing worthy opponents with foreign objects for maximum impact. I also love to cook. Maybe you like what you see. I’d love to have you for dinner. I mean, over for dinner. But first, snuggle up as I serenade you.”
