BALTIMORE — Police in Maryland, coordinating with its aviation unit, caught multiple vehicles exceeding 100 miles per hour on Route 10 during a recent high-speed enforcement detail.
Last week, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said it conducted a two-and-a-half-hour “high-intensity speed enforcement detail” on Route 10 just south of Baltimore.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department Aviation Unit, which operates a helicopter, observed multiple vehicles traveling over 100 mph. They relayed the information from the aircraft to police on the ground in both marked and unmarked cars to issue citations.
Many of the traffic stops were for drivers going more than 30 mph over the speed limit, including one driver in a Ford Mustang who was going 169 mph, police told WTOP.
Officers made 19 traffic stops during the operation, which resulted in 24 citations and five warnings for “egregious speed violations,” according to the police news release.

According to the news radio station, the fine for exceeding 40 mph over the speed limit in Maryland is $530, and drivers can also be cited for negligent driving and reckless driving.
