Sharon Acker, star of ‘Point Blank,’ ‘The New Perry Mason,’ dead at 87

Sharon Acker, a veteran film and television actress who appeared in the 1967 film “Point Blank” and played Della Street in “The New Perry Mason” TV series during the 1970s, died in Toronto. She was 87.

The Canadian-born actress died at a retirement home on March 16, her daughter, Kim Everest, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Born April 2, 1935, in Toronto, Acker debuted on television in the 1956 series, “Anne of Green Gables” according to Extra TV. She debuted on film the following year in the British movie, “Lucky Jim,” according to the news outlet.

Acker’s big break came in the 1967 film, “Point Blank,” where she played Lee Marvin’s unfaithful wife, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Two years later, she appeared in the third season of “Star Trek” as Odona, a desperate woman from an overpopulated planet.

Acker would also play Perry Mason’s loyal secretary in the rebooted version of Erle Stanley Gardner’s classic crime drama about the brilliant defense attorney, “The New Perry Mason.” She starred with Monte Markham in 1973, but the series lasted only 15 episodes, according to IMDb.com.

In 1976-77, Acker starred in the television adaptation of “Executive Suite,” according to IMDb.com. She and Mitchell Ryan reprised the roles played by June Allyson and William Holden in the 1954 film.

Acker’s television credits also included guest roles on “The Wild Wild West,” “Get Smart,” “It Takes a Thief” and “Lancer,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. She also appeared in episodes of “Alias Smith and Jones,” “Gunsmoke,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Mod Squad,” “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Cannon,” “Barnaby Jones,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” “The Rockford Files,” “Police Story” and “Quincy, M.E.”
